The first 9/11 Memorial event open to the general public is expanding in scope. In addition to the garden of 3000 flags representing those who perished, the World Memorial sculpture, an 18’ tall tribute to the World Trade Center will also be on display throughout the weekend. On Saturday, displays from the FDNY, NYPD, EMS and the FDNY fireboat will be open for public viewing. Events will take place and 9/11 artwork will be on display throughout the weekend. A commemorative ceremony will take place on Sunday at 1pm.

The 9/11 Memorial Field is a garden of 3000 Flag of Honor and Flags of Heroes on 10’ flag poles. Visitors are encouraged to walk among the flags, to touch them and to read the names of those who died. The Flag of Honor contains the names of everyone who died in the terrorist attacks of 9/11. The Flag of Heroes contains the names and ranks of the emergency services workers who died so other would live. In addition there will be flags representing to 92 nations that lost citizens in the attack.

This will be the first and only 9/11 event in NYC that is open to the entire 8 million New Yorkers who lived through the events of 9/11. It will be a place to reflect, to share stories and to heal. A place for the rescue workers, the volunteers, those who worked at the site and those who watched. All were intimately changed and this place is for them.
