The Flags of Honor and Heroes Up-date Newsletter
November 4, 2009

Dear Friends and Supporters,

This morning I had tears in my eyes as I watched the USS New York, made in part from 7 tons of steel from the World Trade Center, come into NY harbor for the first time. I stood on shore with military honor guards, FDNY firefighters, NYPD officers and hundreds of others while bagpipes played. Sailors and Marines stood at attention at the rails of The Ship and saluted as they passed by Ground Zero and gave a 21 gun salute. The ship was at the same time massive and yet magnificently beautiful. What an incredibly moving experience. I cannot begin to express my pride.

USS New York - NYC Harbor - 11.04.2009 - NY.

It's hard to believe that we are less than 2 years away from the 10th anniversary of 9/11. Time goes by so quickly. Our small, but growing (welcome Kerry Mara) team of volunteers continues to distribute the flags so that those who died will be remembered forever. We are thankful to the Hoda & Kathie Lee Today Show for presenting the flags on their 9/11/09 show. The wonderful exposure resulted in many more supporters and flags being sent throughout the world. You can see the comments we’ve received at our “Feedback” section < www.biellc.org/your_feed_back/ > and also see photos of flag displays from around the world at < www.biellc.org/Gallery/ >

We at the Project realize that the 10th anniversary will be a landmark turning point for the memory of 9/11. Families and friends will never get past the incredible loss. The world will never be the same. And America will never forget. But in light of the reality that after 10 years many will move on, we are making every effort to be sure that the individuals who died on 9/11/01 will not be relegated to mere numbers. A special effort called the "We Remember" project will print special Flag of Honor flags with "_ _ _ _ Remembers". The blank being the name of organizations that wish to sponsor flags for display at their locations or given away to their customers. We will keep you informed of our progress with this special program.

As the holidays approach we wish everyone a healthy and happy holiday. Please don't forget to say a special prayer for the families and for the swift and safe return of our military personnel around the world. Remember to express your appreciation to those who make life better for all of us. Times are difficult for many this year. Help those who need it where you can. Life is short. Every day and every good deed matter.

As I was writing this newsletter I was reminded by Olivier, the conscience of this project from the beginning, that all of our efforts must stay focused on those who perished on 9/11. And that you, our supporters, are the ones who have made the Project such a success because you have chosen to remember them. The sons and daughters, husbands and wives, friends and lovers who died on 9/11 represented all of us. We will forever miss and remember them. Thank you Olivier and thank you supporters.

Lastly, but most importantly, we would like to ask from you that you please forward this up-date newsletter to as many people as you can. If each of us sends it to just a few people, it will make a tremendous difference in our effort to continue our remembrance project throughout the country and the world.

Kerry, Laurent, Olivier and I wish you the most peaceful and joyous holidays. Thank you again for your support and friendship during this past year. May God grant your every wish.

Sincerely,
John Michelotti
