G / APPLE TREES
Outlining each side of the slopping walkways encircling the memorial are planted 9 and 11 apple trees respectively. Apple trees were chosen not only because of their inherent ties to New York but because they best depict the beauty and the cycle of life. Along with the terrible consequences, the terrorist attacks also bore the unexpected fruit of compassion and kindness among people throughout the world. Each year the trees will bear fruit reminding us of the renewal of life and the good things that grew from the tragic events. The beauty of the apple blossoms in the spring will create an ideal setting for all of our senses.
