On September 11, 2001 Freedom was attacked on American soil. Three thousand sixteen people from 92 nations died only because they were living in freedom. The American Flag is recognized worldwide for the freedom it stands for. After the attacks the flag was immediately raised at each site as a symbol of freedoms resilience and the unity of free people. It should forever stand in glory as the centerpiece of this permanent memorial.
The World Trade Center Site Memorial will honor the mosaic of all of the people who were affected by these horrific acts. From the Glazed Wall to the Apple Trees to the Liberty Wall, it speaks to the past, the present and the future in a way that is most respectful of the victims yet confident of the future. It keeps sacred the towers footprints and provides dramatically serene areas for quiet reflection and remembrance.
What happened on September 11th, 2001 will be remembered by the world forever. Our efforts to honor those lost, acknowledge those who survived and thank those whose efforts displayed their compassion for others, should be worthy of the timelessness of this endeavor.
